Yep - same clouds [pile of plates] pic in Daily Mirror today with equally silly explanation and readers comments. Seen same over Mt Teide Tenerife - they are not that rare over mountains  |

I saw this one from a helicopter over Mount Cook in New Zealand in March 2004. As nytecam says, they are not rare over mountains, but sufficiently so for the helicopter pilot to hand me his camera to take pictures for him too!

I've seen lenticular clouds several times in the Cairngorms. I must photograph them next time.
