| | | viewing sun in red hygrogen light Still bitterly cold but a rare and welcome sunny morn to safely view the sun via my Coronado PST telescope from indoors through double glazing Yes - it work ok if the glass is good modern 'float' glass and the telescope magnification is low. Used the campact cam in movie mode [YouTube beckons ] for this montage
Not much going-on on the sun currently just past solar minimum eg no dark sunspots but a few tiny 'flames' on the edge of the sun called prominences only visible via a dedicated scope like the Coronado PST
Of course....NEVER LOOK AT THE SUN WITHOUT SPECIAL SAFE FILTERS

| | | Re: viewing sun in red hygrogen light Thanks once again nytecam - another great image.
I saw this (or a very similar) set up demonstrated only this week on Sky at Night. Fascinating stuff.
Regards
Mike.

| | | Re: viewing sun in red hygrogen light Thanks everyone for your interest - not much sunshine of late but clear this morning for these prominence shots - I've added our fragile blue planet Earth to scale
The sun is currently at solar minimum activity and when it gets going in the next 12-18 months prominences can get 10 times bigger!
