Pluto is saved!

Scientists have now confirmed Pluto is to remain a Planet, but the remaining changes have caused a real stir.
Have a look at:http://www.space.com/scienceastronom...efinition.html
For the full story.

Yes. Am very pleased I had an e-mail from BBC science and nature.
The planet Pluto is two-thirds the size of the Earth's Moon. I glad we are keeping it as aplanet

I spoke way too soon! Pluto has now been downgraded to a Dwarf Planet... Along with no doubt hundreds of other small icy worlds out there.

That's a shame. I believe it has a moon called Charon doesn't it? I have a small video of the moon Charon rotating.
It's quite big in comparison with the planet

Re: Pluto is saved!

Now we need to sort out these frozen "gas" planets like Jupiter and saturn, lets be rid of 'em they are just big footballs, how you can you call a bag of wind a planet?

Re: Pluto is saved!

At the end of the day does it matter whether we call Pluto a planet or not, is Pluto going to be offended?

They're not even footballs! Try kicking one, your foot would just go right through it .

Seriously though, I agree.

The lowest possible mass for a star is about 75 Jupiter masses - less mass than that and it doesn't have enoght gravity to compress it's core to the point where it starts fusing hydrogen into helium.

There is an in-between state, called a 'Brown dwarf' between about 15 and 75 Jupiter masses.
These do generate heat by compression, but don't have the neccesary mass to become a bona-fide star.
