| | | Great Orion Nebula Here's my recent pic of the Great Orion Nebula [M42] in the 'Sword' beneath Orion's Belt taken from my backgarden with a compact 350mm fl f/5 lens [eg Meade ETX-70 'scope] + Starlight Xpress astro-CCD cam in 3m exposure The nebula cloud is thought to be the birthplace of new stars!
If of interest I'll post more deepsky pic but don't wish to overstay-my-welcome |

| | | Re: Great Orion Nebula I don't think there's any danger of "overstaying your welcome" with such interesting contributions as yours nytecam.
Whilst I cannot claim any detailed knowledge regarding astronomy, Images such as this are both beautiful and fascinating, and always result in the contemplation of what's out there in the night sky. (Especially if any "Layman's" explanation of both the subject and the technology used to get the photos could be added).
The astronomy forum is not generally oversubscribed with posts, and I for one, (and I'm sure many others also), would be very interested to see more such images. - Keep them coming.
Best regards
Mike. |

| | | Re: Great Orion Nebula Thanks everyone for your interest - your comments taken-on-board. Here's another couple of my recent deepsky images - left is the Rosetta Nebula in Monoceros [to left of Orion] and another starforming region [like the Orion Nebula] with the central bright stars radiating strong ultraviolet light that causes the surrounding hydrogen gas in nebula to glow
To the right is the famous Seven Sisters starcluster in Taurus - also known as the Pleiades and M45 in the Messier Catalogue. The Pleiades has ceased star formation and largely lost it surround gas cloud and but it still glows faintly by reflected starlight. Hope these shots of interest
