| | | Re: online moon phase/chart Hi Dan, do a Google search for "lunabar" - it`s a free program which will give you moonphases, rise and set times etc. You can enter your co-ordinates to get fairly accurate moon info for your exact location

| | | Re: online moon phase/chart I use the lunarbar thing, we have all lost the idea of always knowing the phase of the Moon, I like to know where it is. I was always told it was unlucky to see the new moon through glass, anyone else heard this?
Mind you, I was also told the the top off a boiled egg wasn't good for you (Mother is a miner's daughter from Derbyshire, she remembers a birthday when the present was a boiled egg, got her legs slapped for eating it all as half was for her brother). Vinegar turned your blood to water ( then what happened). |

I agree that we should be more aware of the moon phases in everyday life (and not just because I'm a Pagan) but because it has an influence everywhere - from tides to plant growth. Seed planting to the phases of the moon gives better crops.

I'd never heard of it before I met him and you are the only other person to mention it. |

....... | It must be a real problem if you're an astronomer then.

| | | Re: online moon phase/chart I use a little standalone program called 'The Moon Clock'
It sits in the corner of your desktop (or wherever you put it) and gives current Moon Phase, as well as rise and set times, and also current position including height above (or below) the horizon.
There's also a little display box which can be set to show various values....
Local time - Universal time - Moon phase percentage - Moon age in days or hours......
I have mine set to show my local sidereal time
(Very handy for visual astronomy..... best detail can be seen in objects as they cross the meridian - their highest point in the sky - local sidereal time equates to the RA co-ord that is currently crossing the meridian)
It looks like a 'widget'
I'm having trouble finding a link - so if anyone wants it, PM me and I'll email it to you - it's a little 'exe' file, only 88kb in size
For serious Moon observation with a telescope, I'd recommend 'Virtual Moon Atlas' Virtual Moon Atlas

| | | Re: online moon phase/chart Not being an astronomer Dan I can't guarantee my answer, so hey you're not the only one who feels this way . On average the moons full cycle lasts 29.5 days which closely resembles our calendar month, which means just month- moon phase! My guess is that it would be the same world wide just differences with moon rise & fall?!? I'm sure you'll get a fully fledged bonafide answer soon in the meantime this link might be more worth your while??? moon-phases.net - a free Internet resource about lunation

| | | Re: online moon phase/chart Yep - the Moon will have the same phase no matter where you view from - all bar a tiny bit of 'libration'
If you were to view from one side of the Earth, in a place where the Moon had just risen - and compare that to the view from the other side of the Earth, where the Sun was just about to set.
The two viewing positions would be separated by almost the diameter of the Earth - so one person would be able to see a little bit around one side of the Moon, and the other person would be able to see round the other side of the Moon.
The difference would be very small, but it would be measurable with accurate equipment.

That stops the witches sailing away or crossing the road - can never remember which (excuse the pun). | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
