Has anyone tried this method of astrophotos

I have obtained some half decent pics of comet holmes, the moon and saturn by simply putting my digital camera (a Canon A630) to the lens of my telescope (Orion Europa 150)and leaving the shutter open as long as possib;e witghout imiage blur ruining the pic, the saturn pics arent exactky amazing but you can see the rings so i have achived what i wanted, a image of saturn that anyone can tell what it is, with a fairly cheap and simple digital camera!
whats more i have no motor drive, im sure if i did my simple method would get much better results
Im doing a postaphon in order to allow me to post pics again, as i dont think you can post pics strait away here.

Re: Has anyone tried this method of astrophotos

Ok, i think i figured it out, i added some pics to the gallery and now i have to put the link here, but i would like to know how to post pics directly with my posts rather than having to add a link to the pic
This is just an experiment to see if it works so here goes.

this is comet holmes, i took numerous pictures to show how it grew over time and also to track its movement, this was taken a few days after the other photo (higher magnification)

Re: Has anyone tried this method of astrophotos

Aha, it worked, you have to click on the thumbnail to see the full size version.
Now i can show my other astropics, they are really nothing spectacular but what they do show is you dont need to spend £££££s to get some fairly decent astronomy photos, when i say decent, i mean, you can tell what they are, well maybe not the mars pic! all you need is a telescope, digital camera (one that allows you to leave the shutter open for at least a few seconds) and a steady hand! so here are the rest of my astronomy pics

this is comet holmes not long after the spectacular flare up

no need to explain this one!

this just looks like a orangey blob, but it is mars!

Im quite happy with this, i have always wanted to take a picture of saturn that showed the rings, its not brilliant but i have captured saturn and the rings so thats good enough for me, you can see the yellow colour and also the size comapred to mars, (it was the same magnification)

and finnaly, here is a pic of the orion nebula
