I don't know what the real experts think of it, but I use Google Earth where you can switch between Earth and Sky. It's full of information with photos from NASA or the Hubble telescope.

There's also astro.forumup.co.uk which is a friendly mine of information with very knowledgeable people who would know the best sites.
