Am I guessing right your a Pagan? I love the moon, its very magical. My Pagan days got me into an interest of the moon. I have a book called Moon Mysteries by Jan Brodie, its a great read. |

Ive been interested in the moon and the influence it has within our lives.
Ive noticed over the years that there is a connection between the moon calendar within the month and my behaviour.
From tomorrow this is also a great time for carrying out any positive magic .
This is known as the Waning period in the Moon calendar.

You probably already know this, but for those who don’t.
The moon obviously effects the water on the earth, such as the tides, our brains are mostly made up of water, so its not hard to see why madness is associated with full moons. the word ‘Lunatic’ comes from the word ‘Luna’ meaning moon. Its why the police and ambulance drivers often say people are more violent on the full moon and that they are busier because the full moon effects the waters in our brain causing people to do more erratic things. Its why werewolves are also associated with the full moon also, because many mad men and killers in the past would be more likely to strike on a full moon, giving the belief that men turned into wild animals on such nights.
The 12 monthly cycles of the moon each year are also connected to the 12 monthly womanly menstrual cycles of the year. Many Pagan fertility goddesses are symbolic of the moon, which is why they are called moon mothers, or moon goddesses, so its believed that more women get pregnant on a full moon than at any other time of the month.

Faeden | There are actually 13 Lunar cycles in the year.

I was talking about how the Pagan wheel of the year is connected and rolls over to the conjoining year from 12th month to the 1st again. But in a sense your right.
Here are the names of the 12 Pagan moons........ - January – Wolf Moon
- February – Snow Moon
- March – Worm Moon
- April – Pink Moon
- May – Flower Moon
- June – Strawberry Moon
- July – Buck or Sturgeon Moon
- August – Fruit or Barley Moon
- September – Harvest Moon
- October – Hunters Moon or Blood Moon
- November – Beaver Moon
- December – Cold or Long Nights Moon
These may differ slightly depending on what pagan tradition you are.

Faeden | I celebrated two full moons this yr..taking place during May ..the latter one being called the Blue moon..
Depending on what calendar or site you visit this may have taken place during the month of June..
Are you a follower of the moon and if so what calendar do you go by.

Julie | I observe the moon and pay attention to its waxing and waning, but I don’t really follow any particular calendar, as I no longer consider myself a Pagan, as I have now turned away from labels, but I used to follow the more Celtic traditions. I am just someone who likes to study all sides of nature type spiritual beliefs.
The main reason I take notice of the moon phases, is avoiding getting a smack in the mouth from my better half at the wrong time of the month Annoy a women on her period on a full moon and you might just end up with a black eye, I learnt that the hard way

Funny you should mention about your interest in the Celtic tradition
Ive spent a great deal of time reading about the Celts and their beliefs which is all around us in everyday nature ...and especially their uses of Tree and Herbs medicines..
I found it and still do quite an uplifting spiritual experience..
Its nice to know that there are others with nature type spiritual beliefs out there..

Being this forum is about nature and the wild, I can imagine there are a fair few closet pagans, or people with nature type spiritual beliefs here, but choose to keep it hush hush, because of Paganisms over all reputation, quite a lot of people still think Pagans worship Satan and sacrifice blonde virgins, so you cant really blame them for being secretive about it.
I am absolutely fascinated with our Celtic past, if I had a time machine id go back to them times and become a Druid, and see why and how they built Stonehenge. The effort and time they put into building that circle is so mind-boggling that it must have been for something that meant more than life itself to them.
What I like about the Celtic beliefs is that it was a celebration of nature and way of connecting with it. It taught to take from nature, but to keep a balance by equally giving back to nature, something more people need to be understanding today more than ever. What the Celts believed is true if you think about it, that nature is our mother and father, because without it none of us would be here. We should respect nature and honour it, just as we do our physical human mother and father, because its in both our interest and natures interest for us to do so.

| | | Re: Full Moon 26-09-07 Your so right on some many things...including people keeping their beliefs in the closet..
We have so much to thanx the Celts for ..I often wonder what would they make of this land now if they were to come back for a visit..
Ive visited stonehenge many moons ago all i can say is thats its such a magical place i can still remember how i felt when i first touched the stones..that moment will stay with me always..
Going even futher as i believe in past lives i do feel a connection with the Celts and their traditions.. and also that i would have fitted in perfectly amongst them in their daily lives...You mentioned about wanting to be a Druid..I read somewhere that many Druids were women and that they were well respected and of great knowledge. I
too feel that would have taken this role..
Have you found a special place amongst the trees perhaps a mighty Oak sitting there taking your mind back to when these lands were covered in forest and what took place ..wishing you were there...
Julie

If the ancient Druids came here today, I can imagine they would bash us all over the head with their staffs, and maybe shed a tear or two.
I believe that past lives and reincarnation are the best possibly there is when it comes to the afterlife, as that way you have many lives to achieve ones spiritual goal, instead of being given one shot in a whole eternity and you either get it right and go to heaven, or get it wrong and burn in hell, that idea just doesn’t make much sense to me, but each to their own. Reincarnation and ones connection to the land and our ancestors makes a lot of sense to me spiritually, although I do not believe in anything fundamentally.
Me learning about Paganism and the Occult is what got me going out into nature and learning about it, and when I was there, I always felt at home, almost as if there was something so familiar about it all, that I could not quite put my finger on, even places I had never been before, almost as if I was remembering something deep in my subconscious. Most people reading this will probably think what a nutter, but I am sure you understand what I am saying Julie
One of the more negative things I found about my experiences with nature was that the more I grew to love nature, and the more I saw how magical it was and how connected we all are to it, the more I become depressed and angry at what humans were doing to it, sometimes I felt a deep despair at the ignorance people now have towards the very thing that sustains us and gives us life, it really caused me to get quite upset.

Julie | I know the feeling I have done very similar. The feeling you get brings you back down to earth and puts you back in touch with the real world and your true feelings.
