An odd, six-sided, honeycomb-shaped feature circling the entire north pole of Saturn has captured the interest of scientists with NASA's Cassini mission.
NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft imaged the feature over two decades ago. The fact that it has appeared in Cassini images indicates that it is a long-lived feature. A second hexagon, significantly darker than the brighter historical feature, is also visible in the Cassini pictures. A really unusual formation. I would have expected something that was swirling to have been round or oval in shape. |

Absolutely fascinating, Mrs Fish. Thanks for the link. I wonder if it has any relationship to the molecular structure of the gases in the atmoshpere or on the ground, or a combination of the two?

Fascinating stuff. My immediate thoughts were that it could be due to some fault in the image processing software but with video that seems unlikely. |
