| | | Hexagon on Saturn An odd, six-sided, honeycomb-shaped feature circling the entire north pole of Saturn has captured the interest of scientists with NASA's Cassini mission.
NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft imaged the feature over two decades ago. The fact that it has appeared in Cassini images indicates that it is a long-lived feature. A second hexagon, significantly darker than the brighter historical feature, is also visible in the Cassini pictures. The spacecraft's visual and infrared mapping spectrometer is the first instrument to capture the entire hexagon feature in one image. NASA - Cassini Images Bizarre Hexagon on Saturn

| | | Re: Hexagon on Saturn A really unusual formation. I would have expected something that was swirling to have been round or oval in shape. |

| | | Re: Hexagon on Saturn Absolutely fascinating, Mrs Fish. Thanks for the link. I wonder if it has any relationship to the molecular structure of the gases in the atmoshpere or on the ground, or a combination of the two?

Anyone read all the 2001 books? Didnt he (Arthur C. Clarke) say something about a diamond being possible for a core? |

| | | Re: Hexagon on Saturn Fascinating stuff. My immediate thoughts were that it could be due to some fault in the image processing software but with video that seems unlikely. |

We Saturnians were hoping you wouldn't discover this.
Oh well, now that you've developed weapons of mass destruction, there's nothing for it but to invade... |
