Hi Richard
I was wandering the woods a week or 2 ago and met a couple of fellas huddling around a scope on a tripod and they told me there was a Hawfinch around; it was just below the childrens playground; wasn't you was it?
I did spend an hour or two chasing the knocking sound of the woodpecker with my camera in hand but got bored then distracted by a pair of treecreepers sweeping the standard oaks in a recently cleared area.
I had more luck with lesser spotted woodpeckers in the woods to the north side of Hockley; they were still a bit shy, though.
I'm quite new to wildlife photography so perhaps I need to get something straight; is it the difficulty of our subject that makes the chase such fun
All the best
Tim
