Hi Nighshade. The same sort of thing happened to us here in West Lothian.
We had about 6" of snow here on Saturday which only took 3 hours to fall.
It's mostly gone now but more is expected.
For the first time in ages we had a pair of bullfinches in the garden and a pair of yellowhammers. A short while later we had a flock of chaffinches and goldfinches and around 13 collared doves. The sparrowhawk paid us a flying visit and I counted a total of 9 blackbirds and no less than 5 robins!! As suddenly as they all arrived they disappeared again. Did I think to take photographs? No I was so busy watching my little viitors that I forgot.
