It never ceases to amaze me, each time I come across a child that has no, or very little contact, with anything to do with wildlife.
So many are plonked in front of the telly, a computer game or watching a permanent round of dvd's, it's hardly surprising.
This is why think that it should be everyone's duty to pass on the delights of learning about natural history. It's such an excellent way of understanding about so many things in life and with luck, they'll grow up with the same love of nature that we have.
I think the best presents a child can be given are a pair of wellies, bucket and spade and the attention of an adult that loves the countryside.
