When teaching Bushcraft the numbers that will try wild food are much higher, but even then rarely trust themselves to do it. Its just an interest for most.

I remember my mum getting me to try hawthorn berries and all sorts when i was a kid and all the teachers at school saying 'don't eat any berries they're all deadly'. I did eat yew berries once and nothing happened but I don't recommend it.
