Yes, it would certainly be interesting to know the effect of the fire. There is a view that fires were once a commonplace and might even help to maintain a 'real' heathland fauna (whatever that is ) - a lot of reptiles and insects can elude fires if these are flashfires - burning out quickly and moving on. I've no experience and it does seem risky but certainly on our upland heaths (which, admittedly, are a lot larger) regular controlled burns seem to have minimal impact on the fauna.
