I used niger to attract goldfinches to our garden a few years ago, but now they prefer sunflower hearts. We had 19 together at one time last week, and this afternoon we had 13. Fortunately I can buy a 25kg sack at a local animal foods supplier for a much more modest price than any of the mail order places, or pet shops.
