Reading back through this thread, If i remember correctly, the trees near our house only gave a full crop for jam making every other year. No idea if there was any reason for this. It was nearly 25 years since I'd given the trees any thought so my memories could well be wrong.
But now I have a new found interest in the trees and a lovely trip down memory lane.
