I recently returned from Cyprus where I saw a bird on a daily basis which I believed to be an Eleonoras Falcon. I have been trying to identify it since returning and am still not sure as to what it is. From a distance my initial thought was that it was a Kestrel, but slightly larger and colouration different. Also did not hover at any time. Have 3 photos but all of the front so you cannot see the colouration of the reverse which was a light brown/olive colour and not the rusty colour of a kestrel or the dark tail. The info I have read since my return indicates they leave the island by November and the photos were taken last week mid- December. Also, each time it flew by or landed in the trees it never seemed to frighten the sparrows and wagtails feeding nearby and the Eleonoras Falcon is supposed to feed on birds. I see you are looking for photos of an Eleonoras Falcon, what is your verdict???
