And even worse the other way round - the screen size is 20cms, the insect was 4mms long therefore do the calculation and describe it as 50x. Surely easier just to say what the original length was?

Horses for courses Paul, I personally find it easy to relate to a photographic image that is 1:1 or 1:2, but on a screen I agree it would be useful if the size was given in mm Jon
