I'd keep the film camera for portraits and landscapes.
Digital does give you the freedom to experiment and if you dont like the result you just delete.
But it does mean you are taking on the task of the processing lab youreslf and will need a computer. So its a two edged sword, you become both the photographer and the processer.
My advice would be to get hold of a good wildlife photography book like " Moose Peterson's Wildlife Photographer and also Andy Rouse's Digital SLR Masterclass and read both before taking the plunge.
