Grimsby has one of the most upto date modern fish markets in the country, and is still a big player when it comes to fish imports - but hardly anyting landed. It's a 'middle-man' fish town now.
Unfortunately if you take a look at the fish dock today, you'll soon see there's only a handful of small trawlers left. Most of the docks now are home to yacht clubs. No deep-sea fleet anymore containing hundreds of vessels. When I was a kid, my dad used to take me down there on his shoulders. You couldn't see the water in the docks because the trawlers were packed so tightly!
They're all gone now, along with all the livelyhoods it supported. Nobodies fault but are own for the rape of the seas.
The Icelandic had it right, they put quoters and exclusion zones on decades ago (hense the 'Cod Wars'). No wonder they still have viable stocks left!
