I always carry a plastic bag with me. A small pedal bin liner is ideal, then if it starts to rain I just slip it over the dslr and lens and secure it with a large elastic band. Cheap enough and lasts a good few weeks before it needs replacing. It's also small enough to fit in a pocket or camera bag.
Can't suggest any places for rainy days in Yorkshire though.
