If you have a lot of (or any) springtails, that is a sure indication that you have a very healthy environment! They won't be found in poor conditions, and poor conditioins are not good for plants or other wildlife.
They are harmless, I love to find new ones. I am finding a lot of different species which is amazing, it wasn't long ago that I didn't even know they existed.
