Yes, cafes don't seem to take debit cards, although some will, depends. However the campsites such as farms or pubs like cash only, but some pubs like the Lion Inn orn the Blue Bell Inn on the North York Moor will take debit/credit cards. In the case of the Lion Inn, it will be omitted this time.
Best to take £10 of loose change, say 5 x £1 pounds and the rest in 10p, 50p to make up the £10. I carry enough notes to pay camp sites, but there is cash points in Richmond, Kirkby Stephen, Grasmere and most pubs/shops do cash-back if you spend a minimum £5/£10. So not really a problem, but never I never take a large amount of money on the walk. |
