Not been affected myself, but was in work last night which is only a mile or so from the bridge where the policeman was killed which you'll have seen on the tv.
When we heard which bridge had gone in the early hours of this morning, we found it hard to believe which one it was. It was not a structure you could have imagined being washed away. A couple of people from Cockermouth had to leave to check on their homes.
The thing about Cockermouth is nearly all the shops on the main st are local businesses as opposed to the national chains which have taken over many other town centres. Hopefully they will get back on their feet again. the majority of the pubs & restraunts are located there too, which will have been gearing up for Christmas. |
