Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time

Welcome back Dan - I see you haven't changed much while you've been away either - don't worry matey you're well on track to become a moaning old git too just like us - all you have to do is live long enough - life supplies all the irritations along the way to make it happen

I enjoyed last night - tho my breath hitched in my chest a couple of times when I thought the !new! glasses may be going to be whipped up into the hairline ........

No seriously - last night was good - the team have melded into a team - it was very enjoyable to watch they have settled down well - full marks from me. The wrinkles at the outset were prob due to nerves, new presentation, new format etc. The whole production has arrived at excellence I'm sure it appeals and works for the target audience which is surely to get more folk - younger people - younger family folk - interested in the wildlife that surrounds us all.

As for the sparrowhawk using drowning - husband has watched a sparrowhawk at work deliberately take a fiesty noisy starling and drown it in one of the ponds ........ which is a hugely interesting thought that raises a lot of very interesting questions .... so some creatures - maybe only predators - understand what death is and what can cause it ......... I'm still reeling from the fact that killer whales put other whales onto their backs and cause a sort of catatonia in order to overcome and kill something larger than themselves.... there is something far more sophisticated going on than mere 'animal savagery' here isn't there ........
