Psyllopsis species all feed on Ash, and although most have distinctive patterning, for this species the main diagnostic generic feature is that there are 9-10 metatibial spines rather than up to 6 in similar genera.

P. fraxinicola is the most distinct species, lacking a dark pattern on the wing membrane, and with a generally greenish body colouration, also without the dark markings of other species. It closely resembles some species, but the host plant and the genitalia are reliable. The female genitalia are shorter than in almost all Cacopsylla species.

Common on Ash (Fraxinus spp.) across the UK.
