| Things that go bump in the night, wildlife? or something else! Not sure if i should be posting this thread on the forum, but i do want to mention something that has really been bothering me for years and which i have never mentioned to anyone else for fear of ridicule or otherwise and which i have no explanation for.
I was probably around 15 years of age (many years ago) at home in bed, around 2-3 in the moring i was woken by noises from the area of waste ground bordering the river at the end of my garden, it was a mid summer night and the window to my bedroom was open, i could hear what sounded like an animal screaming in pain, there was also a noise like limbs being broken from the trees and of crashing through the undergrowth.
I remember listening this this for a while, not sure how long and then i woke my father and asked him to come and listen for himself, we both stood by the window for a while and then my mother joined us, unfortunately as she entered my bedroom she turned the light on and immediately, the noises stopped, it was not directly at the end of the garden but more to the left behind someone elses garden.
Anyway, that was that, the following morning i ventured down to the river and walked along the waste ground to the area of the previous nights noises.
I found the spot, it was easy as there was a big bramble bush that the day previously, had been around 4 ft high and at least 12 ft long, it was totally flattened along with everything else in the vicinity.
To flatten a bramble bush takes some doing as brambles are really tough and if you tread on one, it will usually resume its previous position quite quickly, but this one was flattened.
Also an oak tree, which is still there today on the river bank, had some of its branches broken off and which were scattered on the ground beneath, most of the branches were dead ones but the odd thing was, they had come from the tree at a height of around 20 ft.
There is no animal living in the forest capable of doing the things that happened that night and as the strip of ground is fenced off, no horses or cattle could gain access to it anyway.
This will for ever be a mystery to me as i couldn't imagine anyone providing a satisfactory answer, but has anyone else ever experienced anything similar?
