For those interested took the image into CS3 ,into Channel Mixer and converted by ticking the box at bottom left monochrome ,then played about with the red blue and green sliders getting a total nearest to 100 as possible.
Then using the burn and dodge tools burnt in the detail in the sky and clouds and crevices on the rocks then gave it a slight bit of shrpening in unsharp mask.
