Met a nice guy the other day who was a fellow birder. We discussed a few things and he mentioned there was sightings of a Black Kite in my area. He got so excited and at one point I thought I was going to have to calm him down
his enthusiam was incredible, but I couldn't join in as rare sightings just don't do it for me, I much prefer my resident birds and appreciate them much more. To give an example Barn Owls are fairly common round me, but I'd much prefer to see one combing rough ground at dusk over seeing the Black Kite. Be interesting to hear your thoughts and what you prefer.
