Re: Wildlife photographer of the year 2009 winner announced

The two winning shots are stunning. I like the way the judges have chosen the second trap release photo two years running, basically sticking up two fingers to last year's detractors. Like it or not (I'm all in favour of it), at least they are consistent! The wolf shot is much better than last years lepoard shot, and a worthy winner I think. Much more worthy than the run-of-the-mill safari shots that seem to get "commended" merely for their exotic subject matter.

Generally though, I gotta say that apart from the two winners, I'm a bit underwhelmed. Very few of the winning shots have the wow factor that I usually associate with WPY. The macro shots are particularly weak - I have seen far better on WAB and elsewhere.
