That was my first thought but then I couldn't quite pin it down to a possible species... and it's never wise to doubt Nick's intuition so I'd be inclined to think
Gymnopilus is a good bet - although it looks a bit chunky for anything other than
G. junonius and that species tends to be on hardwood rather than softwood.
