Not sure how many really care whether you say "Latin" or "scientific". The names are 'latinised' (usually) so that the endings look as if they are Latin, but they are often not Latin words - many are Greek, but can be from any language you like - and can be total inventions. Everyone will know what you mean, whether you say 'Latin' or 'scientific', and only the serious pedants will pick you up on it if they happen to disagree
