Found exactly the same thing growing on Betula last week and have held back judgement as I will be returning there in a few weeks. Ionotus for certain but at the stage it was in I really couldn't make a commitment. What I have read makes me agree with Neil that any Ionotus on Betula is a good find. I am awaiting the rains to encourage some quick growth.
