There's quite a few different species of dog rose; to identify them, you really need a photo of the leaves, flowers and/or a clear shot of the fruit (hips).
With cotoneasters, it helps to have a photo of the upper & lowerside of the leaves, as well as a general view of the plant. They also differ in the number of stones in the fruit, so it's always useful to break open one of them to find that out.
