Flash setup advice for photographing badgers

Hi all

I'd love some advice about a flash photography setup which is great for photographing badgers at dusk/night. I'm shooting with a Canon 40D and already have a 580Ex Speedlight. Also have the much older 540 EZ speedlight which I don't think can even function as a slave unit - I can't seem to get it to do anything at all other than non-ttl flash when mounted on hot-shoe.

So, if anyone can advice on equipment needed and a rough set up I'd be v. grateful!

Cheers for now

Dave
