I'm a big fan of flickr. There is such a big community using it it makes it easy for so many friends, family and people to access you photos.

I find with personal url based websites, the only people that see your photos are people you give the link too! They might look more professional if you're looking to promote your photographic services on a commercial basis; but then if that's the case you'd probably want a bespoke website.

I use photobox pro galleries for selling images (from events and stuff).

I suppose depending on what you want from a website (sharing, selling, promoting) will all have different answers.
