I've heard of tadpoles being present in ponds in autumn and winter (due to not metamorphosizing until the following year), but never frogspawn... So it seems highly unlikely that this is what you've got, Swifty. Frogs spwan in the spring in the UK.

Without a photo or more description it's difficult to guess what your mystery jelly might be. Perhaps snail's eggs (which are laid in jellylike clumps) or even a kind of algae? When you say 'large clumps', how large and what sort of shape are the clumps? And are they just greenish, or can you see any patterns or dots within the jelly?
