I'm not sure if I'll get any amphibians though as the nearest place with them is about 2 miles away. Will I get any? I have never seen a frog or toad anywhere near here. And is it feasible to have White Water Lily (Nymphaea alba) in a barrel pond? Is there a dwarf cultivar/variety?
skip the tap water and use rain water.

or use tap water an treat it to make it aquatic animal safe

if not treated wait some time before thinking about fish etc

as you need to give it time to cycle
