I agree with Dogghound. I found a pellet similar to that a month or so back at the side of a wheat field.



It disintegrated when I lifted it, but it contained cherry stones and beetle. In the same location I found numerous other pellets, some containing all wheat chaff (4.5cm long, 2cm wide), some with chaff and beetle, and some containing all three (therefore assuming they were from the same animal).



My initial thought was corvid pellet, but reading up in the Bang and Dahlstrom tracks and signs book, I concluded they were gull. Saying that, I didn't smell it, so couldn't comment on the odour!
