I've done both video and stills at night illuminated by a white LED light-ring to about 1-2ft - bought at the PoundShop for, naturally, £1 - bats not included. I've tested the spectral response via my spectrograph and the light-ring gives a near perfect balanced light from violet to red 400-700nm
The light-ring is designed to clamp around a parasol pole and I think would fit around the camera lens barrel quite well
