I think Trading Standards should get involved - as you say, attempting to charge people for something to which they are legally entitled is plain wrong. It's fraud in my book.

Also any well known high street photographic chain will be perfectly well aware of Nikon's "free" 2nd year warranty. I bet if you call them on it they'll claim that their policy covers more than the free one or than is required under the EU legislation.
