Was thinking of visiting this place but the bike bit has put me off a bit. We went to try and find bickerstaff nature reserve near Wigan, about six weeks ago but couldn't find it so this could be a good alternative. There is a place called amberwood somewhere nearby, have you heard of this?, not much info on the web.
