I went the Hickling last year. I can recommend a boat ride from Horsey Mere, which is very close to Hickling. In fact the ride goes right into the centre of Hickling Broads. Whilst on that I saw and got shots of a flying Bittern, and saw three Marsh Harriers. Bearded Reedlings are a definite possibility.
It's a great area I'm sure you'll love it. You could still see Swallowtails. We saw a second brood one in pristine condition and that was around 27th July.
