Mrs Tringa was painting close to Loch Tollaidh(about a mile or so south west of Poolewe) a couple of days ago and was visited by this fly. We both thought it was a type of cleg, but having looked at some of the photos on here I'm not so sure - it looks hairier than the clegs on the photos and the head thorax junction looks different.
Is it a cleg or not?
