| Re: Help picking lense Hi Barry, and welcome to WAB.
Sigma are at the top end of the independant lens manufacturers market, so you could do a lot worse. (I have a couple of Sigmas lenses and am well satisfied).
They do an all rounder 28-300mm zoom (f3.5-6.3), with 1:3 (1/3 life size) macro facility, and it's available in Pentax AF fitting. (You should be able to get one for £289.00 from a well known chain of high street photographic retailers or possibly less via the web).
As a starter lens, with a good overall range, that will enable you to capture most photographic opportunities straight away, this would be hard to beat.
But, as has been said above, such a lens will always be something of a compromise in comparison with several dedicated prime lenses, or with a good zoom & dedicated macro lens. - Having said that, you would be paying about three times as much to get those lenses though.
Whichever way you decide to go, I would strongly advise you to try out your prospective lens before purchasing. (All reputable high street camera shops will let you try a lens out on the premises). Doing so will give you a good idea of the zoom range and magnification factor for macro etc, etc.
Good luck with your choice.
Regards
Mike. |
