I have a new hero and his name is David Kilpatrick!
He has set up "National Trust Pictures" and makes some extremely good points on the "about" page at

I found out about this through an article on the Copyright Action website at
National Trust Pictures - not the NT, not Alamy: | Copyright Action. The last two paragraphs of the first post are brilliant and confirm exactly what Mike said above - the NT are in danger of shooting themselves in the head with this, not the foot.
The NT needs a new motto - how about "For ever, for everyone. Except photographers."
