Thanks all. It is the history and countryside that is making me want to go there now. I live in the Pacific NW and get the unpredictability of weather. I guess I'll just have to tough it out!
But this info has maybe made me choose to go more towards the London area. I really just wanted to get a cottage out in a kind of secluded area to enjoy nature. But close enough to see some art museums, some of the older architecture of the area, and for sure some soccer...football. Sorry
