I'm astounded!
I think they've been sitting there under the water with a calendar, ticking off the days until March 1st. I spotted over a dozen in my pond today, several in amplexus and one glob of spawn. I'm just south of Glasgow and we only lost the freezing conditions two weeks ago.
There were loads of croaks sounding out from the pond too as they tried to convince others to "Come on in, it's fine!" |
