Buying an Outdoors Knife

I recognise the need to exercise caution and restraint in terms of sales to minors and carrying in public without 'good reason'.

Anyway, I am wanting to buy a decent knife for outdoors stuff - if I keep splitting slices of kindling off with my Swiss army knife, either me or the knife are going to regret it soon enough.

So I am looking for something more sturdy, not sure to go with a fixed blade, or a folding (locking) blade but would be keen to take advice. I also don't want to get arrested, so wouldn't want anything overtly 'offensive'. I have done a bit of reading up on the government websites and it seems things are very loose in terms of the definition between legal, reasonable use and offensive. My opinion on this may be different to the judge's....

Any help gratefully received as always.

Cheers.
