Must admit I've used low-energy bulbs (and nothing else) for years now and have never had any problems with warm-up speed or brightness. I have been careful about getting good light reflecting lamp shades and using small table lamps in places where you need slightly extra light to read by. I'm sure the new LED lamps will evolve into a useful set of low energy alternatives too.
